March 2, 2026My Blog Home Got Moved!
Oh, yes, it did! More updates are happening as I work to bring everything up to speed. For a while, my old blog site (dreamnotion.zhollis.com) was giving me all sorts of headaches.
Yeah, that picture was the old site with its smoky ghost-like pirate ship. sigh I’m going to miss that picture. But anyway! Like I was saying, the site was giving me issues. And (side note), I’m just now blogging about this new update several posts later. Why? Uh… cause…. I was kind of trying to figure out other things and updating it… but anyway. After some personal digging on why the Old blog site wasn’t working, I suspected the problem was an outdated PHP version causing the chaos. But even after getting HostGator to update it, the site was still spitting out garbled junk.
More research revealed the likely culprit: my super ancient WordPress template, from way back in 2008! And, of course, the original creator’s account was long gone. This meant the site kept losing its blog formatting, turning into a bizarre text-only page with odd brackets and no images – even after I tried fixes like turning off plugins and clearing the cache. Talk about frustrating!
So, it was time to call in an expert. After chatting with my fantastic web designer (so relieved she’s still on Guru under her same account, emullin!), I made a huge decision. We decided to move my blog from its own standalone WordPress installation to the one I already had sitting unused under Zhollis.com (I always wondered what that area was for… huh).
This meant saying goodbye to the ghostly banner and the fun look I had before. But, as my web designer convinced me, consolidating my blog content into Zhollis.com reduces ongoing maintenance and keeps everything neatly organized. Plus, now I don’t have to juggle two separate sites, dealing with all those WordPress, PHP, and other updates!
It was a change I really didn’t want to make (as is usually the case for me), but it definitely came with its benefits. Sigh. All these changes, changes, changes. But that’s just how time works, isn’t it? You’ve got to adapt.
Until next time!
